New pool at Riccione's Stadio del Nuoto opens on Thursday 12 November
On Thursday 12 November at noon, the sixth pool of the Stadio del Nuoto opens: a covered 25-metre pool costing 4.8 million euros. It coincides with the start of the Italian winter national championships.
Riccione has a new swimming pool. On Thursday 12 November at 12:00, the covered 25-metre pool at the Stadio del Nuoto (the city’s swimming stadium) on viale Monte Rosa will be officially opened. It is the sixth pool of the town’s swimming complex.
Expected at the ceremony are Paolo Barelli, president of the Italian Swimming Federation and Undersecretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, and Flavio Siniscalchi, head of the government’s Department for Sport. They will be welcomed by mayor Daniela Angelini, councillor for Sport and Public Works Simone Imola, and Michele Nitti, president of Polisportiva Riccione.
The opening falls on the first day of the Italian winter short-course championships (Campionati italiani assoluti invernali open Frecciarossa), which run until 14 November. The new pool will be ready to help swimmers straight away, with extra space for warming up and preparing for races.
The project cost 4.8 million euros: 4 million from the EU-funded PNRR recovery plan and 800,000 euros from the municipality. It focuses on sustainability, with solar panels to produce its own energy, gas-free heating and large glass walls to limit heat loss.
The pool works independently, with separate entrances, dedicated changing rooms and step-free routes. Public swimming, lessons and local club activities can continue even during major competitions. The mayor says it strengthens Riccione’s role as a host of swimming events and brings quality tourism all year round.
